I was tasked with redesigning and optimizing the UI of SNR Trak as part of a larger replatforming effort. SNR Trak is an internal tool for editors to review, edit and approve images submitted along with a press release or regulatory disclosure.
Restrictions: We could not take out or add any technical functionality as all focus was being placed in the already complicated process of replatforming.
User Interviews – The first step was to talk to our users, Business Wire photo editors, who are responsible for making sure the images are appropriate in content, format and sizes. The pain points expressed revolved around the slow process of opening each image and approving each version of an image individually, each function requiring several clicks.
Design Strategy – Cleared up the interface from superfluous clutter. Designed a new visual language with a system that can be extended to other internal tools. Added a clear hierarchy of content making it more legible and easier to scan, this has the added benefit of more efficient photo editor onboarding. Condensed the steps used to review images by using consistent patterns and grouping important actions so that they’re easier to access.
User Validation – Before handing off to our engineering partners we prototyped a happy path version of snr trak to test out with the editors and ensure this system felt like an improvement in their work flow.
